Welcome to UUBay!…a goods and services exchange building community and supporting our budget.
Who? Members and friends of the UU Church of Canton.
What? A place to re-home (sell, give away) items to one another, ask for or offer help or services, tap into the collective knowledge of the congregation, with proceeds generated being directed to the church.
Why? To make it easier for us to meet, share, help and connect with one another and also help cover our current and future budget gaps.
How? Simply send an email to UUBay@uucantonny.org briefly stating what you need, what you’re selling, or what service you might provide. Other group members will respond to you directly, and you can take the conversation from there off-list.
Can I opt out? Of course! Just email office@uucantonny.org and request to be removed from UUBay, but we hope you’ll give it a try for a few weeks. This is an experiment. If it works as we hope it will, it could be a wonderful resource for us for the long-term, providing benefits far beyond the church’s financial health.
Some simple “rules.”
- Be brief and as clear as you can about your need or offering.
- State the value or suggested value.
- Make your arrangements directly with one another, off list, so as not to clog others’ email.
- Make payment to the church via check, Venmo, or online. Please indicate this is a UUBay donation, so that we can track the impact of the program.
- This is an honor system. Do what feels right. For more valuable items, for instance, you might want to donate a portion of the proceeds (think, an automobile).
- Be creative!
FAQs:
Can I opt out? Yes! See above.
Does there have to be a money exchange? No. You could, for instance, just be looking for information or a referral to someone outside the group (“Does anyone know of a local upholsterer?”).
Will this continue after the budget gap is met? Maybe, if it works out well.
