UU the Vote 2024

Thinking about the upcoming election? Wondering what you can do to get involved?

UU the Vote has a number of suggestions. You could:

  • Write postcards for the Reclaim Our Votes (ROV) campaign. UU the Vote has partnered with the Center for Common Ground, a non-partisan voting rights group to reach historically marginalized voters in swing states with hand-written postcards. There will be opportunities to write postcards before and after church on September 8 and 15. There will also be evening gatherings to write in Canton at the church on Monday, September 9 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and in Potsdam at the home of Jan DeWaters and Stefan Grimberg on Sunday, September 15th in the evening (Time TBD). Please contact Rebecca Rivers at ryoungrivers@gmail.com to let us know you are coming!
  • Volunteer to host a postcard party for your friends and/or fellow UUs. We can expand our capacity for postcard writing if we have more people willing to host gatherings. The local ROV organizer, Rebecca Rivers, provides all the materials and an explanation of what to write. Hosts can invite anyone they like and make decisions about whether they want to provide snacks and stamps. Neither are required, so a willingness to host is really all we need. Currently, we are booking in late September. Contact Rebecca Rivers at ryoungrivers@gmail.com if you are interested in continuing the conversation about hosting.
  • Educate North Country voters about Prop 1 (ERA), an amendment to the New York State Constitution which will be on the ballot this November. Prop 1 adds certain protections to the State Bill of Rights to prohibit discrimination against ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes and reproductive health care and autonomy. Currently, the New York State Constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed and religion, but these protections are insufficient to ensure comprehensive civil rights. Ginger Storey-Welch will be organizing local activities. You can contact her at storeyg9@cpcs.us.

Thanks for your efforts in support of our UU values!
