We offered two brainstorming sessions in April, in which 37 people participated. We now have 10 distinct social justice projects which have been described, on issues of poverty, racism, incarceration, immigration, gender & sexuality, and climate action. A later update will describe these in more detail. A few projects will commence during the summer. In late August we will have a follow-up session, to which all are invited, to set priorities among the projects and action steps. OUR THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED!
At these sessions, we asked:
What motivates our congregants to be involved in social justice?
Creating and building up communities, addressing the need around us, sharing what we have with others who aren’t so fortunate, walking in solidarity, building empathy and a more just society, joining and working together with other people, anger about injustices, frustration with our culture’s failure to attend to other people’s suffering, our own privileged position in society, organized action, and fulfilling a VERY important part of the church’s mission!
