Totalitarianism, Abandonment, and Loneliness
The Rev. James Galasinski
Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) was an historian, philosopher, and one of the most influential political theorists of her time. Arendt believed that abandonment and loneliness is used by dictators and fascists to make people vulnerable to ideologies that are disconnected from reality. They aim to destroy the space between people, making it difficult for us to think and relate to ourselves. Building community is an act of resistance.
