Pete Beekman Receives Theo Dunn Award

During the January 27 Sunday service, Church Council Vice President and 2019 Canvass Co-Chair Jenn Whittaker presented the Theo Dunn Service Award to Pete Beekman.

The award is named for Theo Dunn, who was an active member of our church for 35 years until her death in 1993.  She served as Clerk (now Secretary) of Church Council for 20 years, told and illustrated wonderful children’s stories for church children, and took on dozens of other volunteer tasks. In 1988, the church instituted the Theo Dunn Service Award, with Theo as the first recipient. Each year, the award honors a volunteer who has given many years of service to our religious community.

As Jenn described in her presentation, Pete has been an engaged and active member of the church for many years. He was a thoughtful and organized Church Council President, has been and continues to be a volunteer in the RE program, and he is a regular volunteer for Church and Community Program.

Pete has also chaired Building and Grounds for many years. “He comes to the church at all hours of the day and night –whenever there is a building emergency – including the fire alarm!” says Jenn. “He is the main go-to person for everything building related.”

The last two years he has given immeasurable support to the Canvass Committee. Thanks to Pete’s breadth of knowledge, vision, analysis and passion for fundraising, we’ve had two incredibly successful years!
