The emotional profiles of Americans are changing with more measurable amounts of moodiness, dissatisfaction, and anxiety. The more we focus on external goals like good looks, social approval, and high income, the less happy we are. But the more we focus on our internal goals like learning an instrument, a second language, or our own morality, the happier we are.
