Thanks to all who have participated in the process of developing a new mission statement. Following is an overview of what we’ve done so far and what’s in store:
- Council set a goal to create a new mission statement.
- An ad hoc committee was formed.
- Background information was gathered from the UUA and other sources.
- A strategy and timeline were developed to gather input and keep the congregation engaged and informed throughout the process.
- We held a Coffee, Conversation & More session devoted to discussion about mission.
- An online survey was conducted, and results were shared with the congregation.
- A mission-focused workshop was led by the Reverend Christine Robinson. Some results of the conversations were included on page 5 of the March newsletter.
- Several winter potlucks focused conversations on mission.
What’s next?
- With all the collected input we will craft a concise and compelling mission statement.
- We will identify key values that support our mission, which will be included with the mission statement.
- A draft statement will be presented to Council this spring.
- The draft will be reviewed and refined, based on Council and congregational input, over the summer months.
- The congregation will adopt the new mission statement at the annual meeting in October.
