The fall story as recorded in Genesis claims the world was once perfect then we sinned and now it sucks. Similarly, some anthropological models claim that once things were more egalitarian, then things got bigger, bureaucratic, more hierarchical and now it sucks. These, of course, are both myths. Things were never perfect but they can be better.
