Life is changing rapidly, but our roots run deep.
Let's continue to grow together!
Connecting in these new times means getting creative and exploring all the options. Luckily, we we are all rooted in relationship, which makes our latest initiative - Rooted: Deepening Our Connection - a natural extension of our church community.
Church Chatter, a lively, weekly email filled with news about church friends, was the first product of Rooted. Its success confirms our desire to connect with one another. Let's build off that energy and create more light-hearted and fun activities.
You can help by generating ideas, hosting an event, or partnering with a friend to lead an adventure. Reach out to Carol Zimmerman to discuss details. She will help you navigate logistics and safety precautions that accommodate your level of risk tolerance.
If you haven't already, sign up for Church Chatter here
or by emailing Sara in the church office. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, join our private Facebook discussion group, and check out our YouTube channel, too! If you're comfortable, join us in person in the sanctuary for Sunday Worship.
We're excited to see more of you in 2022!

Solo Canoe & Kayak Connection
Carol Zimmerman and Valerie Ingram are planning a second “Solo Canoe and Kayak Connection” event on Saturday, August 13, in the St. Regis Canoe Area. Tandem canoes or kayaks are welcome, too, but be aware that there will be two or three short carries (depending on water level), the longest of which is about 1/4 mile.
Here are the details:
· Meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Potsdam Coop parking lot.
· The route will connect Hoel, Turtle, Slang, and Long Ponds.
· Includes optional hike up Long Pond Mountain, a four mile round trip. Those who prefer not to hike can hang out below, explore the pond, swim, or take a nap!
· We expect to be gone most of the day, so pack a lunch.
If you haven’t done this kind of canoeing before, don’t be intimidated! The idea for this series was to help newbies (like Valerie) interested in learning and growing in confidence. Carol is the seasoned paddler, so come learn with her. If you’ve paddled around the bend a few times, bring your expertise and stories to share! All are welcome.
To sign up or ask questions, email Valerie at vingram@stlawu.edu. It’s going to be great!
Looking for some new places to take your kayak or solo canoe? Want to do it with other UUs? Carol Zimmerman and Valerie Ingram are teaming up to offer a series of three (and maybe more!) paddling adventures. We’ll start after church on June 19, with a simple paddle from Pyrites Playground up the Grasse River as far as Hart’s Falls where we can have lunch and take a swim, weather permitting, before heading back down to Pyrites.
We’ll choose dates for the remaining two events based on input from the group. We hope to introduce some interesting, and maybe lesser-known routes, which may include some short portages, but don’t be intimidated! That’s what this series is for! Carol is the seasoned paddler, and Valerie the eager newbie interested in learning and growing in confidence. So, come learn with her, if you’re also new, or bring your expertise, if you’ve paddled around the bend a few times (so to speak).
To sign up or ask questions, call or email Valerie. It’s going to be great!
Queer Possibilities: A gender- and identity-inclusive meetup for LGBTQIA+ UU adult members and friends! What possibilities exist for the queer community in the North Country? Hiking trips or artists' events? A parenting group? In person or virtual activities? Join an informal discussion and dessert bar, and let's talk about turning those possibilities into realities. Join us Saturday, April 30 from 2-4 pm in the Social Room. To RSVP, please get in touch with Rebecca Donnelly at beccadonnelly@yahoo.com to help the organizers get a sense of people's interests in advance of the meeting.
