Chalice Lighters

An important way for members of our congregation to make a difference within our Unitarian Universalist denomination is through the Chalice Lighter Program of the St. Lawrence District. The Chalice Lighter Program was created to extend Unitarian Universalist principles and faith by promoting growth of congregations within the St. Lawrence District.

A Chalice Lighter is an individual (or family) who pledges to make a contribution to a congregation when a call comes to “light a chalice” in the district.

Each year the St. Lawrence District awards two Chalice Lighter grants, which might help a new congregation get started or an existing one get a new minister; it might support moving into a new building or renovating an existing space; it could be used to fund improvements in important programming such as religious education.  To finance these grants, the district puts out a call to all Chalice Lighters, who have pledged to respond to twice-a-year calls with donations of $20 or more.
